Port of Oakland welcomes CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin, first megaship in the U.S.

The Port of Oakland successfully berthed the largest cargo ship to ever visit the U.S. The CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin, at 1,310-feet nearly a quarter-mile long, tied up at the Port’s Outer Harbor. By docking without incident, it symbolically opened the Trans-Pacific trade route between Asia and North America to megaships…

Southwest Airlines announces first ever international flights from Oakland International Airport to San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

At a press conference at Oakland International Airport today, Southwest Airlines Co. announced that they filed application with the U. S. Department of Transportation to offer nonstop service daily between Oakland International Airport and both San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos & Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, beginning in February 2017, subject to governmental approvals. Once approved, the carrier’s flight schedule and fares will be published on Southwest.com…

Truck diesel emissions down 98% at the Port of Oakland

Diesel emissions from trucks serving the Port of Oakland declined 98 percent between 2005 and 2015. In that same timeframe, ship emissions dropped 75 percent. Those were the key findings of an emissions inventory the Port released today. The results indicate the Port is advancing its 2008 commitment to reduce seaport-related diesel health risk by 85 percent by the year 2020…
