Meet the Commissioners
The City of Oakland Charter gives the Board of Port Commissioners exclusive control and management of the Port of Oakland. Our Board consists of seven members nominated by the Mayor and appointed by the City Council for four-year terms. Members must live in Oakland during their term and at least 30 days prior to their appointment. Port Commissioners donate their time to the Board as they serve without salary or compensation.

The beautiful Jack London Square is home to a Farmer’s Market that is organized and managed by CUESA (The Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture). Market customers connect directly with farmers and sellers offering fruits, vegetables, specialty foods, flowers and more. Free cooking demos, culinary educations classes and other events are also part of the Farmers Market at the Oakland waterfront.

Serving as Jack London’s premiere monthly event, we pull out all stops to create an unforgettable experience. Featuring over 50 vendors, live entertainment and food, Second Saturday feels like a neighborhood block party amongst friends. This flagship monthly event is open to the public and free to attend.

Cruise into history on board the USS Potomac with a docent led tour of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's floating White House. Introducing The Buck to Jack London Square! The Buck is held every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from 11 am – 4 pm, running concurrently with Jack London Square Farmers Market giving people easy access to an assortment of vendors selling unique clothing, jewelry, fresh produce, delicious food, and more.

Tall Ships - Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain
April 11 through 23
Two tall ships, Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain, are docked at Jack London Square at the foot of Broadway from April 11 to April 23. Visitors can take a dockside tour of the ships for a suggested $5 donation to the “floating museums.” There are also ticketed sailing adventures and simulated battles on the San Francisco Bay. Oakland Dance Festival brings local dancers, choreographers, studios, and teachers to Jack London Square for two days of rhythm and fun. This festival will showcase a dazzling array of dance genres including jazz, ballet, modern, hip-hop, folkloric dance and more. From little ones to professional adults, dancers of all ages will perform and celebrate the power of dance and culture. This event ends with a large outdoor public dance party!

Saturday, May 11, 12 pm - 5 pm
Located at the heart of the Urban Wine Trail, Jack London Square will be filled with more than 20 Northern California wineries offering tastings, as well as live music, vendors, artists and more. Tickets are $40. All guests must be 21+ with valid ID to attend. A portion of the tasting ticket proceeds will benefit The Oakland Lions Club.

Make room in your schedule for this one! The Beat Generation Exhibition is open and free to the public Wednesdays through Sundays in Jack London Square, at 54 Washington Street. The exhibit features a representative collection of art, by local Abstract Expressionist Arthur Monroe who is being inducted to the Smithsonian Archives of American Art as well as other prominent, local, African-American artists.

Come join us for the first annual Songkran Festival at Jack London Square. The Thai, Lao and Myanmar New Year honors parents and ancestors through a community event full of art, food and celebration. Festivities begin in the morning at Farmhouse Kitchen with a special ceremony - giving food to the monks - for good luck and fortune. Afterwards, there will be a parade to the main stage. Thai cultural dancing and live music occur throughout the event. Food vendors will offer various styles of Asian cuisine. There will also be a Beer Garden and a booth for cocktails & mocktails.

More than seven thousand visitors are expected to attend the second annual Cinco de Mayo Festival at Jack London Square. The celebration will include a mercado (marketplace) with over 40 food and merchandise vendors, live music and entertainment, Lucha Libre fights, low-rider car show, drink + restaurant specials and kids activities.
