The City of Oakland Charter gives the Board of Port Commissioners exclusive control and management of the Port of Oakland. Our Board consists of seven members nominated by the Mayor and appointed by the City Council for four-year terms. Members must live in Oakland during their term and at least 30 days prior to their appointment. Port Commissioners donate their time to the Board as they serve without salary or compensation.

The beautiful Jack London Square is home to a Farmer’s Market that is organized and managed by CUESA (The Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture). Market customers connect directly with farmers and sellers offering fruits, vegetables, specialty foods, flowers and more. Free cooking demos, culinary educations classes and other events are also part of the Farmers Market at the Oakland waterfront.

The popular ten-year anniversary of Dancing Under the Stars has expanded to festival status. Each event will begin with a 30-minute dance lesson taught by professional dance instructor Carla Service, founder of Dance-A-Vision Entertainment. Dance themes include salsa, Caribbean, swing and hip-hop. Immediately following the lessons, guests are invited to try out their new moves at the outdoor dance party. The evening continues with live DJs, food trucks, beer garden, vendors, a virtual reality photo booth and more.

The Ferry Lawn at Jack London Square at the foot of Clay Street becomes an outdoor movie theater during the summer. Come on over to the Oakland waterfront to enjoy free outdoor screenings of Hollywood blockbuster favorites, every other Thursday evening at sundown. Join us on the Marina Lawn (across from 55 Harrison St., Oakland, CA) for first edition of MUSH, a new concert series presented by BFF.fm. This FREE festival will feature artists that represent the vibrant, eclectic, and positive energy of the Oakland indie music scene. MUSH will also feature grab-and-go food specials from local restaurants, a beer and wine bar, and Bay Area underground artists and crafters selling their wares along the Marina Lawn.

Three chefs for the Jack London District and two chefs from everywhere else compete the last Sunday of the month in June and July. Who will survive to challenge reining Chef Lamont Periman of Montperi Catering? Sterling James of KBLX, Chef Tu David Phu and others will grace the Broadway Stage at Jack London Square MCing. Free to watch. Tastings for the chef's clever dishes are ticketed. The event coincides with Farmers Market. Attendees can pick up dinner recipes and purchase food at the market to make a special Sunday dinner the same night.
