[:en]Q: Are the Port of Oakland and Oakland International Airport open?

A: Yes, the Seaport and Airport are fully operational. At the Seaport, vessel crews are required to remain on shipboard. Marine terminals are closing for an hour each evening for deep cleaning. Oakland International Airport has taken extra precautions to protect the traveling public and airport workers from COVID-19. All airport employees, travelers, vendors -- everyone is required to cover their faces inside the Airport. Markings have also been added to airport terminal floors to assist with 6-foot distancing in queues. Signage and voice reminders have been posted with safety messages, including reminders to "Wash your hands," "Do not enter if you have the following symptoms,” and reminders about social distancing.

Q: Why are you remaining open during a shelter-in-place?

A: The Port and Airport have been declared essential infrastructure and must maintain operations.

Q: What are you doing to prevent the spread of the virus?

A: Port of Oakland employees are working from home wherever possible. Those reporting to work locations are working on rotating schedules between home and office to limit exposure to others. At the seaport, vessel crews are required to remain on shipboard. Marine terminals are closing for an hour each evening for deep cleaning. The Airport has instituted an intensive deep-cleaning regimen and is aggressively encouraging social distancing in public spaces. Port office space is being systematically cleaned each day.

Q: Are ships still coming to Oakland?

A: Shipping lines are maintaining their weekly calls to Oakland. Eleven percent of scheduled Oakland vessel calls in May and June have been canceled by shipping lines. As a result, our forecast in the coming months is a 5-to-10 percent decline in overall volume throughput.

Q: Can I still get my cargo through the Port of Oakland?

A: Yes, cargo is moving in and out of the Port without disruption.

Q: Are the marine terminals open?

A: Marine terminals are operating normally, though evening shifts have been delayed an hour to accommodate deep-cleaning. Go here for terminal information.

Q: Are workers showing up to keep the Port open?

A: Yes. There is a full complement of labor at the Port and Airport.

Q: Can I still fly out of the Airport?

A: Daily commercial airline service continues at the Airport. Some air carriers have reduced schedules. It’s best to contact your airline for flight information. For information about Delta Air temporarily suspending service at OAK, please click HERE.

Q: How has COVID-19 affected the Port’s business?

A: At the Oakland seaport, the outlook in coming months is a 5-to-10 percent decline in overall volume throughput. That’s because eleven percent of scheduled Oakland vessel calls in May and June have been canceled by shipping lines. At Oakland International Airport, passenger traffic data released for April 2020, reveals a 96 percent decrease compared to the same period last year, a result of COVID-19. The decline in business volume is leading to reduced revenue for the Port of Oakland.

A: Yes, the Port is operational despite a shelter-in-place order mandated by Alameda County. The Port and supply chain partners have been declared critical infrastructure in the coronavirus fight.

Q: Are planes still flying at Oakland International Airport?

A: Yes, at Oakland International Airport, runways and taxiways are open and in active use. Terminals are operational, and air cargo activity has increased with new goods movement demands. Travel that is deemed “non-essential” is allowed but is discouraged as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.
