New flights at OAK
Oakland International Airport has long been known for its convenient accessibility, on-time reliability, and Oakland charm. In recent years, Oakland has emerged as a global destination, with the airport likewise emerging as a key Bay Area air travel gateway. In 2018, OAK’s global reach stretched to include cities as far away as Paris and Rome as the airport amassed a record-breaking total of 10 new destinations and 14 new routes launched.
Domestically, OAK is now an even easier choice for travelers looking to reach its new destinations on both coasts and key points in between. OAK became Southwest Airlines’ fastest growing large station, following the inauguration of 5 new year-round destinations throughout the US. (See full list in chart below)
In 2018, new flights and routes brought OAK’s roster to a high of 67 nonstop destinations, a record high in the Airport’s 91-year history. This upward trend has now delivered consecutive monthly passenger traffic gains for five years at the Airport, with 13.6 million passengers having traveled through the gates at Oakland International in 2018. The Airport ended the year with 4 percent year-over-year passenger growth, and 61 consecutive months of growth – an increase of 40 percent since 2013.

LOOKING AHEAD
2019 is expected to build on the growth trend at Oakland International during recent years, including new additions such as the much-anticipated commencement of Southwest Airlines’ new service to the Hawaiian Islands, announced in 2018. Additionally, Swoop will become OAK’s newest air carrier, and its first to serve Canada, beginning in May 2019.
