Viva Roma! Oakland to Rome link launches with Norwegian nonstop

Oakland, CA – Feb. 6, 2018: Oakland International Airport today launches the first nonstop Bay Area service to Rome since 2001.  The flight between Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Oakland International Airport (OAK) takes 12 hours and 35 minutes, and will operate twice weekly on Norwegian Air’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

“We’re especially delighted to welcome this nonstop flight connecting Rome to Oakland and the rest of the beautiful San Francisco Bay region,” said Bryant L. Francis, Director of Aviation for the Port of Oakland, which operates the airport. “Already, we’re seeing that many Bay Area residents have begun planning vacation and business travel around the convenient and affordable option that this new service offers.”

“We offer more European routes out of the Bay Area than any other airline and we are excited to be the only airline with nonstop service to Rome, one of the world’s greatest tourist destinations. We are also pleased to add Paris in just a couple of months,” said Thomas Ramdahl, Norwegian’s Chief Commercial Officer. No other airline makes travel to Europe as affordable as Norwegian for residents of the Bay Area.

Since commencing service from Oakland in 2014, Norwegian has built a loyal following in the Bay Area from travelers that appreciate the nonstop flights and low fares. Service to Oakland capitalizes on the appeal for Europeans visiting Northern California and its numerous attractions.

Founded in 1927, Oakland International Airport is the fourth busiest airport in California for passengers, and is the leader in San Francisco Bay Area for air cargo.

Rome is the sixth nonstop route by Norwegian at OAK, Barcelona, Copenhagen, London-Gatwick, Oslo and Stockholm. On April 10, 2018, nonstop service to Paris begins, marking Norwegian’s 7th European route at OAK.
