Oakland, CA: April 7, 2018 – Southwest Airlines will add daily nonstop service from OAK to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) beginning tomorrow, April 8th. The service replaces a seasonal test route on OAK’s flight schedule last summer. Due to the success of that route, Southwest has brought the transcontinental flight back earlier this year, and it will now operate year-round. Newark Liberty International is the primary airport serving New Jersey and is one of three major airports in the New York City metropolitan area.
And there is more to come. On April 14th, Southwest will launch Saturday nonstop service to Orlando International Airport (MCO). Service to Orlando raises the count to a dozen new destinations added at Oakland International since 2015. The flight will be OAK’s first route to the popular Central Florida vacation destination.
Additional new daily nonstop destinations to be introduced by Southwest from OAK this summer include:
Orlando (Daily) April 14, 2018
San Antonio July 8, 2018
Indianapolis July 18, 2018
Minneapolis/St. Paul July 18, 2018
“We are delighted with Southwest’s decision to reinstate nonstop New York/Newark service at OAK,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation, Bryant L. Francis. “Southwest continues to be a tremendous partner in tailoring its service to the travel patterns of local residents and visitors, which are responding by choosing to fly OAK in ever greater numbers.”
OAK is the largest base for Southwest Airlines in the San Francisco Bay Area.
