Oakland, Calif. – July 25, 2019:  Jack London Square welcomes the East Bay SPCA’s annual Adopt-a-Thon this Sunday where close to 30 local animal shelters and rescues come together.

“The goal of the event is to raise awareness about the thousands of homeless animals in our community,” said East Bay SPCA CEO and President Allison Lindquist.  “The Oakland waterfront is an ideal location for everyone to come and meet hundreds of these adoptable pets and bring one home.”

Puppies, kittens, birds and more, all suitable as pets, will be available for adoption at Jack London Square, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Last year the East Bay SPCA placed 112 cats, dogs, rats and birds in homes. This year they hope to encourage even more adoptions.

Organizations represented at the event include: Animal Care & Adoption Network,  Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, Hayward Animal Services, Marine Humane, Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, Oakland Animal Services, Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions, Rocket Dog Rescue, Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation and Umbrella of Hope.

Sunday also features the final round in the three-part chefs’ competition – “Knife Fight Gauntlet” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Broadway Stage in Jack London Square. It is free to attend. For those who want a bite of what the chefs prepare, tasting tickets are available for $25 online at www.knifefightguantlet.eventbrite.com.

Every Sunday is Farmer’s Market at the Square between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Knife Fight Gauntlet attendees will receive shopping list recipe cards to take to the market to purchase fresh food and produce for making Sunday dinner.

In addition to the three events above, Jack London Square’s popular Wine Walk on the Waterfront returns for a second year on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. The day will feature more than 20 Northern California wineries offering tastings, as well as live music, vendors, and more. Wineries participating include Rosenblum Cellars, Wente Vineyards, and Wachira Wines. Tickets are available on Eventbrite - $40 for general admission or $80 for the VIP experience. All guests must be 21+ with valid ID to attend. A portion of the tasting ticket proceeds will benefit Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB). ACCFB will have donation barrels at the event and attendees are encouraged to bring a can or non-perishable item to contribute.
