Oakland International Airport Welcomes Norwegian Air Shuttle

First Ever Nonstop Between San Francisco Bay and Norway

Oakland, California – May 28, 2014 – This evening at OAK, Norwegian Air Shuttle, recently named the World’s Best Low Cost Carrier by Air Transport World magazine, saw its first flight depart the San Francisco Bay Area launching new service between OAK and Oslo, Norway. The new service will create important connections for business development between the Bay Area and this Norwegian capital. The flights from Norway and Stockholm, which commenced service on May 3, will also lead to significant development of inbound tourism from Scandinavia to Northern California.

”Our direct flights from San Francisco Bay to both Oslo and Stockholm have been very well received by the traveling public. We believe that the American people also deserve affordable fares across the Atlantic. That’s what we are making possible with our high quality 787 Dreamliner flights at low fares between the U.S. and Europe,” said Norwegian’s CEO Bjørn Kjos.

“We’re excited and prepared to offer an excellent airport experience matching Norwegian’s award winning onboard service. Oakland International Airport is committed to being the airport of choice for Scandinavian visitors to the Bay Area as well as local residents departing for Europe likely for the first time from OAK,” said Deborah Ale Flint, Port of Oakland Director of Aviation.

In another first for OAK, Norwegian’s transatlantic service will be operated with the ultra-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which raises the bar for onboard comfort with LED mood lighting, leather seats and a state-of-the-art advanced in-flight entertainment system.

Flights to Stockholm twice a week from May 3, 2014
Norwegian will operate two weekly flights between Stockholm (ARN) and Oakland-San Francisco Bay (OAK) – on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Flights to Oslo three times a week from May 28, 2014
Norwegian will operate three weekly flights between Oslo (OSL) and Oakland-San Francisco Bay (OAK) – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
