Oakland, CA – (March 31, 2017): Oakland International Airport (OAK) reports 849,866 airline passengers for the month of February, a 5.6% increase over February 2016, which included an additional day.  On an average daily passenger traffic basis, February 2017 was up 9.3% over the average daily count in the previous year.  OAK has now experienced 39 consecutive months of year-over-year passenger growth.

Airline capacity of 1,134,650 total seats increased 4.8 percent from last year and the load factor (% of seats occupied by revenue passengers) increased 0.6% to 74.9%.

International operations increased by 73% over last February, with the addition of nearly 50 new monthly international departures by Southwest and Norwegian.  And, the growth continues with British Airways and Norwegian launching new service to London-Gatwick and Copenhagen, respectively, earlier this week. British Airways is one of several carriers of corporate parent International Airlines Group (IAG).  Further, Norwegian and LEVEL, a new carrier launched by IAG, will both begin Oakland-Barcelona service in early June.

Port of Oakland Director of Aviation, Bryant L. Francis said, "This positive trend is indicative of things to come, as 2017 will be a year rich with new and expanded air service.  We are working diligently to enhance the offerings at OAK, adding to what is becoming an easier than ever choice for travelers both to and from the Bay Area. New domestic and international service is propelling the Airport’s status as a major air gateway."
