Jack London Square summer dance series expands to “Live on the Square”

Oakland, Calif. – June 5, 2019: Jack London Square’s popular Dancing Under the Stars summer series expands to Live on the Square, Friday nights, beginning June 7. This year, the inclusion of live DJ's, food trucks, a virtual reality photo booth, beer garden and local vendors have expanded the 10-year dance event to festival status. Live on the Square is every Friday night from 6 to 11 p.m. through Sept. 27. All ages are welcome.

The free festival features a 30-minute dance lesson taught by professional instructor Carla Service. The lesson is followed by an outdoor dance party. Each dance lesson has a theme: salsa, Caribbean, swing, or hip-hop.

“Jack London Square is a beautiful location at the Oakland waterfront where our whole community can come together, learn some dance moves and have fun while meeting new people,” said instructor Carla Service, founder of Dance-A-Vision Entertainment.

During the summer, other elements will be added to the festival, including DJ Battles, signature drinks for adults and kids, and vendors representing specialty items like wearable tech, eco-friendly products or beauty and fashion.

Jack London Square, in partnership with the Waterfront Hotel will give away two complimentary one-night stays at the hotel each month from June through September. There are more than 55 free public events throughout the year at Jack London Square, which is kid and pet friendly.
