Oakland, Calif. – August 17, 2017: Jack London Square is the California location this Sunday for American Idol’s open auditions for its upcoming broadcast season. Hundreds of singers hoping for a chance at stardom will be lining up from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Oakland waterfront.

Oakland is the fourth city on the US tour for selecting talent. It is the only city in California, where these open auditions occur. Oakland’s musical cultural diversity includes artists like jazz singers, rappers and gospel performers.

To welcome those who are vying for a spot on the show and their supporters, many of Jack London Square’s restaurants and retailers plan to offer specials on Sunday, August 20. Details of the offers are posted on Jack London Square’s Facebook page.

All singers must be at least 15 years old to audition. Those who would like to try out for the show can go to www.americanidol.com to see the full eligibility requirements, submission forms, and terms and conditions for participating.

The program launched careers of superstars Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Hudson among others.

Transportation options to the Square include the Alameda/SF Bay Ferry, the free “B” that runs along Broadway, public transit, biking, walking and driving. For directions to Jack London Square, please go here.
