Oakland, Calif.  – November 2, 2020: Oakland International Airport welcomes the return of Hawaiian Airlines as well as the resumption of service to the neighbor islands of Hawaii, Kauai and Maui.  Flights to the three neighbor islands join service to Oahu which has continued throughout the pandemic crisis.

Hawaiian Airlines Resumed OAK Flights on Nov. 1

Service to Honolulu, Oahu resumed on Sunday, Nov. 1 with 5 weekly nonstop flights. Service to Kahului, Maui is slated to return on Nov. 19 and flights to Lihue, Kauai on Dec. 16. Hawaiian Airlines suspended service at OAK in April 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seats are on-sale at HawaiianAir.com. Through Dec. 15, Hawaiian is currently not booking the middle seats on its flights to provide more space for passengers and flight attendants.

Southwest Resumes Flights to Kauai and Maui on Nov. 4

Effective Nov. 4 Southwest Airlines reinstates twice daily nonstop service to Kahului, Maui as well as daily nonstop service to Lihue, Kauai. Southwest Airlines daily flight  to Kailua-Kona on the island of Hawaii is scheduled to resume on Dec. 6

Southwest has maintained twice daily service from the East Bay airport to Honolulu through the COVID-19 crises as essential for the shipment of goods and transport of medical personnel to Hawaii. That service continues bringing the total number of Southwest’s transpacific flights between OAK and Hawaii to five daily in November and six in December. OAK is Southwest Airlines largest mainland transpacific gateway. As part of the Southwest Promise, the middle seat remains unsold through Nov. 30 allowing for additional space onboard. Seats are on sale at Southwest.com

Alaska Resumes Flights to Maui and the island of Hawaii on Nov. 20

Alaska Airlines will restore service from OAK to Hawaii with nonstops to both Kahului, Maui and Kailua-Kona on Hawaii Island beginning on Nov. 20. Tickets are on sale at AlaskaAir.com

The East Bay is the second largest mainland market for Hawaii (after Los Angeles). OAK is the main East Bay airport and the original gateway to Hawaii with the very first flight back in 1927. “Ties between Northern California and the Hawaiian Islands go back for more than a century and run deep in the East Bay communities we serve,” said Bryant L. Francis. “So, we’re especially pleased that with precautions in place like pre-travel COVID testing, the four largest islands are once again all reachable from OAK with many options for Hawaii-bound customers.”
