Spirit Airlines Continues Their Growth At Oakland International Airport

New Service to Houston Intercontinental Airport

Oakland, CA – Nov. 14, 2014 – Spirit Airlines has announced the continued expansion of its San Francisco Bay Area gateway at Oakland International Airport (OAK) with new seasonal, daily, non-stop service to Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) beginning April 16, 2015.

“We are very pleased that Spirit Airlines continues to grow its Bay Area service with a fourth destination, Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport, one of OAK’s top underserved markets,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Deborah Ale Flint. “This seasonal, daily flight will introduce yet another convenient new alternative for Bay Area travelers, and open opportunities for more travelers from Texas to visit our region. We are certain that offering easy and affordable access to the Bay Area will resonant with many customers.”

Spirit’s new flight is scheduled to depart OAK daily at 10:25 am and arrive at IAH at 4:08 pm. Westbound, the flight is scheduled to depart from IAH at 7:30 am and arrive at OAK at 9:41 am. Spirit’s new IAH flight is scheduled to operate with a newly painted yellow and black Airbus A320 aircraft.

Oakland International Airport is Spirit’s exclusive gateway in to the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to the new service announced today, the airline offers daily nonstop flights between OAK and Las Vegas (LAS), Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW). Spirit, known for dramatically lowering airfares in every market it enters, provides an a-la-carte fare structure allowing passengers to pay only for the services and amenities they desire – such as a wider Big Front Seat – with additional legroom and no middle seat at the front of the cabin.

Houston is the Bay Area’s 16th largest origin and destination market with more than 75,000 travelers departing annually and will be OAK’s 5th nonstop destination to Texas. Spirit’s new service will compliment Spirit’s existing service to Dallas-Forth Worth. OAK will be the only San Francisco Bay Area Airport to offer nonstop service to both Houston airports.
