Port of Oakland welcomes 20 summer interns

Oakland, Calif. – June 12, 2017: The Port of Oakland today marked the beginning of summer internship season with the arrival of 20 college students. The Port’s paid internships give students the opportunity to work with the Port’s maritime, aviation, and commercial real estate businesses.

Over the next two months, interns will be involved in the Port’s daily operations while learning technical skills on a wide range of assignments. They will also have a “hands on” opportunity to work on the Port’s major development projects.

“Our interns represent the future workforce of the Port of Oakland and the region,” said Port of Oakland Director of Social Responsibility Amy Tharpe. “These talented students will receive real-world experience which will make them more valuable to prospective employers after graduation.”

Another six high school students through the City of Oakland’s Earn & Learn Program will also join the Port’s intern team in mid-July.
