Oakland, Calif. – June 5, 2017: Oakland Board of Port Commissioners President Michael Colbruno has received the “OUTstanding Voices” award from the San Francisco Business Times. The annual award honors business leaders who are role models within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Bay Area community.
“I’m greatly humbled and honored to receive this recognition for the work of advancing LGBT equality in the workplace,” said President Colbruno. “We all have an obligation to bring greater awareness toward building a more inclusive and welcoming work environment.”
President Colbruno was appointed to the Port Commission in July 2013 by Oakland Mayor Jean Quan. He was elected its first openly-LGBT president in 2016. Mr. Colbruno is a partner in the Milo Group of California, a public affairs firm. He has served as Vice President of Government Affairs for Clear Channel Outdoor/Northern California. Prior to joining Clear Channel, Mr. Colbruno worked in local and state government as a legislative director in the San Francisco Mayor’s office, and a chief-of-staff at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and California State Assembly.
“Michael Colbruno has been a role model and trailblazer,” said San Francisco Business Times Publisher Mary Huss. “His advocacy, accomplishments, and leadership make him an outstanding voice within our community.”
Throughout his extensive career in public affairs, Commissioner Colbruno has overseen legislative activities and intergovernmental advocacy initiatives, media relations, and community affairs throughout the Bay Area.
