Port of Oakland hosts national transportation forum

REGIONAL COMPETITIVENESS CENTRAL TO POLICY DISCUSSIONS WITH NATIONAL LEADERS

Oakland, CA – March 25, 2016
: The Port of Oakland is hosting a national transportation forum with the National Association of Counties and the Federal Highway Administration. The 2-day program began yesterday and concludes today. More than two dozen policymakers from across the country are discussing goods movement planning, supply chain efficiency, and technological innovation.

“The Port of Oakland plays a critical role in shaping national goods movement policy,” said Port of Oakland Director of Government Affairs Matt Davis. “Global competitiveness in our region will help promote more local jobs.”

The forum is called, “Keeping Counties Moving: Innovations in Transportation Peer Exchange.” The roundtable discussions feature freight planning, infrastructure priorities, and emerging technologies. Port staff provided a briefing and guided harbor tour to show maritime operations along the Oakland Estuary.

Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty played an integral role in bringing the national forum to Oakland to discuss the regional freight economy and related transportation issues. Other forum attendees include members of both the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Alameda County Transportation Commission. The National Association of Counties brings together America’s 3,069 county governments to advocate on national policy, exchange ideas, and pursue cost-effective solutions.
