Oakland International surpasses 12 million passengers in 2016

Oakland, CA – (January 30, 2017): Today, officials at Oakland International Airport (OAK) released December and Calendar Year passenger traffic figures reflecting an ongoing increase in activity. The Airport saw 1,030,516 travelers in December, which marks eight consecutive months of serving more than 1 million passengers, and the 37th consecutive month of passenger growth.

For the year, 12,070,967 passengers chose to fly to or from Oakland, a 7.7 percent increase over the 2015 total of 11,205,063. It is the busiest year for passenger traffic since 2007, when the airport saw 14.6 million passengers.

The continued passenger growth at OAK follows the addition of several new domestic and international routes during 2016. In 2017, OAK is set to become California’s third busiest gateway to Europe as British Airways and Norwegian Air Shuttle initiate new routes this spring and summer.
