Oakland, Calif. – August 29, 2019: Oakland International Airport (OAK) expects to be bustling this Labor Day holiday weekend, which traditionally marks the unofficial end of the summer travel season. OAK anticipates welcoming approximately 191,500 passengers during the five-day period beginning today, August 29, through Monday, September 2. Peak travel for the holiday weekend is expected to be Monday, September 2, with an estimated 47,000 passengers arriving and departing OAK.
“As we conclude the summer travel season, I am very pleased to see ongoing demand, particularly for popular vacation destinations throughout the Hawaiian Islands,” said Bryant L. Francis, Director of Aviation for the Port of Oakland. “Travelers may now choose from more nonstop destinations, flight options, and airlines serving Hawaii from Oakland than ever before. We welcome Bay Area residents and visitors, alike, to enjoy OAK’s convenient and reliable service as summer travels conclude and many head to back to campuses next week.”
With this year’s addition of Southwest Airlines’ new service to Hawaii, OAK will offer up to 47 nonstop departures to the Hawaiian Islands over the five-day Labor Day Holiday travel period, which begins today; a significant increase from 27 Hawaii-bound departures during the same period last year.
Airport officials recommend that travelers check with airlines for flight status updates. Arrive 90 minutes early for domestic departures and 3 hours early for international departures to allow for increased passenger volumes at airline check-in and security screening locations.
