OAK saw highly reliable performance with over 99 percent of flights completed during Independence Day weekend

Oakland, Calif. – July 8, 2022: Despite forecasts to the contrary, over 99 percent of flights scheduled at OAK were completed during the Independence Day travel period with departing passenger traffic reaching 95.5 percent of pre-pandemic 2019 passenger levels with the airport operating reliably with few delays. Passengers were processed without lengthy wait times and thousands were served at the airport shops and restaurants.

Additionally, reporting May 2022 traffic, Oakland International Airport (OAK) once again surpassed 80% of pre-pandemic traffic for the month.

“The reliability of the airlines operating at OAK this summer continues to be strong and impressive. Travelers should have great confidence in flying to or from the San Francisco Bay Area through OAK this summer season.” says Bryant L. Francis, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “With now two consecutive months showing better than 80 percent of pre-pandemic traffic, plus the very busy Independence Day weekend we just experienced, things are looking up for passenger travel at OAK and we look forward to seeing more travelers returning to our terminals soon.”
