Jack London Square’s Pedalfest to draw 25,000 visitors

Oakland, Calif. – July 25, 2018: Pedalfest, a celebration of cycling, food and family, will draw 25,000 biking enthusiasts to the Oakland waterfront on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Veteran cyclers, beginners and casual observers are all welcome at the admission-free event.

“Pedalfest is a fun celebration for everyone,” said interim Executive Director Ginger Jui with Bike East Bay. “It’s an opportunity to enjoy some true bicycle shenanigans, connect with other bicyclists and get involved in bike advocacy in the East Bay.”

Entertainment will feature daring stunts and pedal-powered carnival rides and sound stage with live music. Demonstrations and safety trainings will be offered throughout the day.

Children can decorate their bikes beginning at 11 a.m. at a booth supplying free stickers, streamers and more. Kids can show off their bicycles in a parade at 12:30 p.m. that cruises through Jack London Square.

Visitors will be able to experience the latest in bicycle technology on the E-Bike Test Track and peruse a collection of bicycles, from vintage to handmade.

At the 8th annual Pedalfest, the Drake’s Brewing Lounge area will donate its proceeds to local non-profit Bike East Bay.

Free bicycle valet parking is available for all visitors.

Festival goers can order from a variety of food trucks along the Oakland waterfront. Jack London Square venues will be open including Ben and Jerry’s, Belcampo, Dyafa, Forge, Grocery Café, Kincaid’s, Lungomare, Plank, and Scott’s Seafood. Restaurants with outdoor dining are pet-friendly.

There are more than 55 free public events at Jack London Square during the year. Go here to see all the activities at the Oakland waterfront.
