Oakland, Calif. – June 22, 2016: It’s back! The free, Friday night dance lesson and party at the Port of Oakland’s Jack London Square is happening again this summer. Every Friday evening the Square transforms into a huge, outdoor dance party.
“This is one of the many popular free events that we offer during the summer evenings at the Oakland waterfront,” said Pam Kershaw, Port of Oakland Director of Commercial Real Estate. “It’s great to see so many people of all ages dancing, being active and enjoying this beautiful location overlooking the harbor.”
The dance lesson begins at 8:30 in the evening, followed by a dance party from 9 to 10 p.m. The free, half-hour lessons are taught by professional dance instructors. There is a different theme for each Friday night including cha cha, rumba, salsa, swing or line dancing. The lesson is followed by a mixed-music dance party.
Hundreds of people come out for the weekly event at the foot of Broadway. Line dancing will be taught this Friday, June 24. Beginners to advanced dancers are all welcome.
Dancing Under the Stars (DUTS) is one of 55 free public events throughout the year at Jack London Square. The final Friday night of DUTS this summer is August 26. Please go to www.jacklondonsquare.com to see all the activities offered.
