How to become certified with the Port of Oakland

Oakland, CA.- August 3, 2016– Three instructional videos were unveiled today on the Port of Oakland website to help local firms get certified with the Port for business opportunities. The Port said the videos will help further promote local hiring and regional economic growth.

“We are releasing these videos to show local businesses the ease of the online Certification Process,” said Amy Tharpe, Director of Social Responsibility. “We do this by demystifying the process of certifying your business with the Port, by increasing the number of local firms doing business with the Port and by making the local community more aware of contracting opportunities.”

The first video is a brief introduction on the advantages of working with the Port. The second video shows the types of businesses that are eligible for certification. The third explains how a company becomes certified.

The Port said certification is not a requirement for local businesses seeking contract opportunities. But it added that local certified companies are awarded preference points when pursuing public works projects and professional services contracts.
