Southwest Airlines Launches OAK-Atlanta Nonstop on Sunday, November 1st

New Flight to Top Unserved Market is the Sixth New City Added at OAK in 2015

Oakland, CA – November 1, 2015: Southwest Airlines begins new nonstop service between Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) with the first 143-passenger Boeing 737-700 flight leaving OAK Sunday afternoon at 12:25PM arriving in Atlanta four and a half hours later at 7:55PM. The flight to Oakland will depart Atlanta every morning at 8:35AM and arrive at 11:10AM.

The new flight from OAK to the world’s busiest airport in Atlanta provides a new nonstop link to a top unserved and often requested destination from the centrally located San Francisco Bay Area airport. Southwest now has 109 peak day departures and over 2,400 based employees at OAK, its largest operational base in California. It is also the largest non-public employer in the City of Oakland.

The new Atlanta service represents Southwest’s sixth new OAK route in 2015 following its launch of nonstop to Baltimore-Washington DC (BWI) and Dallas Love Field (DAL) in January, daily services to Nashville International Airport (BNA), Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), and daily service to Columbus, Ohio, which began over the summer.

Southwest reports a robust customer response to the new Atlanta flight at OAK. “Our customers like the convenience and reliability of Oakland International when they travel to and from the San Francisco Bay Area, as well the airport’s focus on providing a customer-friendly travel experience that’s consistent with our product,” said Andrew Watterson, Senior Vice President Network and Revenue Management at Southwest Airlines.

Southwest Airlines flight, fare and ticketing information are available online at Southwest.com or by phone at 800-I-FLY-SWA.

Members of the news media needing information or assistance in reporting news about Oakland International Airport may call the airport’s 24-hour Media Hotline at (510) 563-6500.
