Jack London Square kicks off season of free, fun events this Friday
Waterfront Flicks and Dancing Under the Stars to draw crowds
Oakland, CA - June 1, 2017: Jack London Square, at the Oakland waterfront, becomes a center for free family fun during summer nights. The Square transforms into an outdoor movie theatre every other Thursday evening and a huge dance floor on Friday nights.
“These are two of the many popular free events that we offer during the summer at Jack London Square,” said Pam Kershaw, Port of Oakland Director of Commercial Real Estate. “It’s wonderful to see hundreds of people from all over the Bay Area coming to the Oakland waterfront to enjoy the outdoor movie night, dancing, dining or strolling along the water’s edge.” There are 55 free public events throughout the year at Jack London Square.
The first Dancing Under the Stars event is tomorrow night, June 2, 2017. The free dance lesson features salsa, begins at 8:30 pm, and is followed by a mixed-music dance party from 9 to 10 pm at the foot of Broadway. Beginners to advanced dancers of all ages are welcome. Each Friday features a different style of dance including cha cha, swing and line dancing. Professional dance instructors teach the free, half-hour lessons.
Purple Rain kicks off the free movie season Thursday, June 8, at sundown. Waterfront Flicks is every other Thursday evening at 8 pm with pre-film family-oriented activities on the Ferry Lawn. Movies begin at sunset. The Ferry Lawn is located next to the ferry pier at the foot of Clay Street in Jack London Square.
