Port of Oakland outlines strategic plan during ‘State of the Port’

Sold-out event sponsored by PMSA/Women In Logistics

Oakland, Calif. – February 28, 2025: Port of Oakland leaders Wednesday outlined their plans for the next five years at an annual ‘State of the Port’ sponsored by the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association and Women in Logistics. The sold-out and livestreamed event was held at Scott’s Pavilion in Oakland’s Jack London Square.

Port of Oakland Executive Director Danny Wan thanked the Port’s longtime business, customers, community, and elected partners. “The Port of Oakland remains resilient and strong because of each and every one of you,” said Mr. Wan. “Port stakeholders are the backbone of our local and regional economy, sustaining more than 98,000 good-paying jobs.”

“As the region’s primary commercial catalyst, the Port powers local prosperity through cutting-edge logistics solutions and operational ingenuity, serving as the vital economic engine for our community,” said Board President Michael Colbruno.

The Board appointed Chief Operating Officer Kristi McKenney as Executive Director when Danny Wan retires at the end of February. She shared her optimism, saying there are great opportunities to transform the Port.

“The Port’s Strategic Plan is a blueprint that will help us reach our business development, zero emissions, and community engagement goals,” said Port of Oakland incoming Executive Director Kristi McKenney. “The plan also provides direction on seaport land-use planning, real estate development strategies and airport terminal modernization.”

Below are the six key components of the Port’s 5-year strategic plan:

• Capturing our market and growing our economic base
• Modernizing and upgrading infrastructure
• Transitioning to zero-emissions and building climate resilience
• Maximizing land use and revenues
• Workforce training and jobs development
• Creating opportunities for local business and community economic development
