Oakland, Calif. – Jan. 21, 2020: The Port of Oakland is seeking ambitious, creative and highly-motivated, full-time college students for its 2020 Summer College Internship Program. Through a competitive process, prospective applicants apply for paid internships in a variety of fields, including Audit, Aviation, Communications, Engineering, Governmental Affairs, Human Resources, Information Technology, Planning & Development and Social Responsibility.

The program pay rate is $20 per hour, up to 225 hours, for the nine-week internship program. The duration is from June 15 to August 14.

“This is our 23rd year of hosting college students for the summer, and we have provided over 300 internship opportunities,” said Port of Oakland Director of Social Responsibility Amy Tharpe. The goal is to give these young individuals the necessary skills and experience in a range of professional fields that we hope will prepare them well for the next phase of their life.”

During the internship program, the Port’s summer interns conduct special projects, shadow Port leaders, and participate in professional development opportunities. In addition, interns will collaborate with each other to do special projects for the Port of Oakland. Through this nine-week program, they will gain a comprehensive understanding of the Port’s three business lines – Aviation, Commercial Real Estate, and Maritime – with weekly brown bag workshops led by senior directors.
