Port of Oakland welcomes contemporary Mexican restaurant to Jack London Square

Oakland, Calif. - February 29, 2024: The Port of Oakland welcomes a new addition to Jack London Square’s diverse dining options. Mia Comida Casera Mezcaleria, Mia for short, is a contemporary taqueria specializing in authentic Mexican cuisine at reasonable prices. The new 1,170 square-foot restaurant opened last month in the Broadway Plaza area across from Plank.

Mia Comida Casera, which translates to homemade food, offers an array of Mexican dishes that include burritos, quesadillas, chilaquiles, tacos, and a variety of beverages from sodas and beer to signature cocktails. Each meal is made fresh-to-order and includes the taqueria’s handmade flour or corn tortillas and corn tacos, complemented by beef (such as carne asada or cabeza), pork (such as al pastor), shrimp and fish as well as vegetables, and beans and cheese dishes.

“Opening a restaurant here has been great. People are super happy that we’re here, and business is growing every week,” said Mia owner Alfonso Dominguez. “Our family is honored to open in Jack London Square because of its beauty, it’s location by the water, we love the diversity here, and it’s iconic to Oakland,” said Dominguez. “It’s a great fit.”

Specialty menu items include chile rellenos, cochinita pibil, and ceviche. The restaurant also features a full-service tequila and mezcal bar as well as counter service and a convenient takeout program for on-the-go customers.

“We are so excited to welcome Mia to Jack London Square," said Port of Oakland Chief Real Estate Officer Jonathan Veach. “The Square continues to attract new and diverse tenants, and Mia will build upon the international cuisines offered on the waterfront.”
