Cooking competition series kicks off at Jack London Square Sunday

Five chefs battle in “Knife Fight Gauntlet”

Oakland, Calif. – May 23, 2019: Five chefs will compete in Knife Fight Gauntlet, an outdoor cooking competition at Jack London Square, the last Sunday of the month in May, June and July. The contest is free to watch and open to the public. The series is May 26, June 30, and July 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Broadway Stage (foot of Broadway Street, Oakland, at the waterfront).

Three chefs from the Jack London District and two chefs from everywhere else will compete in the outdoor cooking contest. Reining Chef Lamont Periman of Montperi Catering is the champion to beat.

Chefs representing the Jack London District:

Lev Delany - Chop Bar

Mario Garcia - Belcampo

Leilani Baugh - Roux & Vine

Organizer Eat Play Events & Catering have enlisted Sterling James of KBLX, Chef Tu David Phu and others to serve as MCs.

Knife Fight Gauntlet coincides with Jack London Square Farmers Market. The Market will provide a pantry for the chefs’ dishes.

Foodies who want to taste the chef’s creations can purchase tickets for $25 online for Knife Fight Gauntlet on Eventbrite.com. Tickets are limited to only 30 guests at each competition. Those who purchase tickets get to taste the chef’s creations, participate in the selection of the winner, and take away swag, including recipe cards that can be used as a shopping guide to select and purchase the ingredients for a Sunday dinner that night at home.

Jack London Square is kid and pet friendly.
