New restaurant Southie opens in Oakland Airport’s Terminal 2

Quick-service restaurant will offer soup, salad, and sandwiches for passengers

Press Releases, Airport
October 2nd, 2023

Oakland, Calif. – October 2, 2023: Southie, a new quick-service restaurant at Oakland International Airport (OAK), is now open and serving East Bay passengers. The restaurant is based on the Southie streetside location found on College Avenue in Oakland, and offers fresh salads, soups, sandwiches, and breakfast made from local ingredients. Additionally, a wide coffee and espresso selection is available from local Highwire Coffee Roasters. Southie is located in Terminal 2 of the airport (across from gate 30) and is operated by prime OAK concessionaire High Flying Foods.

“Our airport team continues to make strides in our effort to bring the flavors of our beautiful city to the passengers that fly through OAK,” says Interim Director of Aviation Craig Simon. “We applaud our concessionaire High Flying Foods for collaborating with Southie streetside to bring this new unit to life. Southie will give East Bay travelers a spot to grab a bite that is not only quick and convenient, but also fresh and tasty with plenty of healthy options.”

At this quick-service location, a variety of price points provide choices for all spending levels, including value-priced meal sets and kid-friendly favorites like grilled cheese. For travelers in a hurry to make their final boarding call, a selection of freshly made soups, sandwiches, and salads are also available to grab on the go.

Since opening in 2010, Southie’s Oakland streetside location started as the casual annex of Wood Tavern, its wildly popular and refined sister restaurant from Rich and Rebekah Wood. Southie is named after the predominantly Irish-American South Boston neighborhood, which is filled with old-school pubs and taverns that serve American classics and stalwart ales. In the same tradition, Southie Oakland captures the essence of the casual urban East Coast eatery with its well-executed sandwiches, salads, and soups, along with locally sourced coffee and espresso drinks and pastries.
