Oakland, Calif. – February 19, 2026: The Port of Oakland is excited to announce the kick-off of its 2026 paid Summer College Internship Program. Qualified applicants can apply for summer internships in a variety of professional fields at the Port, including Aviation Facilities, Aviation Terminal Services, Commercial Real Estate, Communications, Community Affairs, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety and Business Continuity/Emergency Management, Environmental Programs & Planning, Government Affairs, Harbor Facilities, Legal, Maritime Marketing and Project Management, Technology & Innovation/Cybersecurity, and Utilities.

The Port has proudly supported internship opportunities for college students for over 20 years. The program is designed specifically to give college students first-hand experience of working at one of the nation’s busiest ports.

“The Port’s Summer College Internship Program provides meaningful, real-world experience that helps students grow both professionally and personally, while contributing to a dynamic organization that supports the success of our region,” said Matt Davis, Port of Oakland Chief Public Engagement Officer.

The application deadline is Wednesday, March 11 at 5 pm PST. The Summer College Internship Program runs from Monday, June 8, 2026, through Friday, August 14, 2026. Qualifications include a minimum GPA of 2.75 and summer residency in one of the nine Bay Area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, or Sonoma). Students must currently be enrolled or have graduated within six months of the program’s start date to be considered.

The selected interns will gain a comprehensive understanding of the Port’s four business lines – Aviation, Maritime, Commercial Real Estate, and Utilities – with intern activities such as meeting the Board of Port Commissioners, engaging in a Governmental Affairs roundtable with local elected officials, and networking with Port leaders. Interns will also participate in exclusive tours of Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK) and the Oakland Seaport. Priority will be given to applicants who live in Oakland, as well as those from Alameda and Contra Costa counties. However, applicants from all Bay Area counties are encouraged to apply.
