Alvina Wong brings over a decade of experience in the environmental justice movement. She works at the intersections of community organizing, public health, and economic development.

As the Basebuilding Director at the Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN), they support grassroots campaigns in Oakland, Richmond, and Los Angeles’ South Bay/Harbor Gateway, organizing with low-income Asian immigrant and refugee communities to fight pollution, prevent displacement, and build local leadership. Alvina leads intergenerational organizing using somatic practices to foster community governance and power.

Their work has included leadership in the Oakland Chinatown Coalition and the Howard Terminal Community Benefits Agreement Steering Committee, helping bridge community, business, and labor interests for the health and safety of the region. Before APEN, Alvina spent eight years in youth development, advocating for education access and alternatives to incarceration.

A passionate advocate for mental health, gender justice, and trans rights, Alvina is also a somatic practitioner who enjoys baking, diving into the Pacific Ocean, and reading graphic novels. She is a queer child of Chinese immigrants and a longtime resident of East Oakland.
