Matt Davis

Chief Public Engagement Officer

Matt Davis was appointed Chief Public Engagement Officer on August 7, 2023. In this role, he brings together the Communications, Government Affairs and Social Responsibility divisions under one roof. Previously, Mr. Davis held the position of Director of Governmental Affairs since April 2015. He joined the Port of Oakland in 2004 and has served in various leadership roles advocating for Port development projects and policies. During his tenure at the Port, Mr. Davis has led teams that have helped secure significant government funding for major Port initiatives, including those moving the Port forward on its road to zero emissions. Prior to joining the Port, Mr. Davis served as a legislative aide to the former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives in Washington, DC. His past work includes economic and workforce development initiatives for non-profit agencies in Baltimore, MD, which included one year of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA. Mr. Davis received his Master in Public Policy degree from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the same institution.
