Leveling the Playing Field.
Creating a level playing field for economic opportunities is the right thing to do. The Port stepped up to this challenge when we created our Social Responsibility Division (SRD) in 2002. It facilitates inclusion, fairness, equity, and access. SRD’s advocacy ensures that small, local businesses, emerging firms and hard-working residents, have access to opportunities in Port projects.
The skills learned on these worksites give those firms and their employees an advantage when bidding on future contracts and seeking employment. As they build capacity, they generate more local jobs and training opportunities. It’s a win-win for the community and a game-changer for young people who need work experience for a brighter future.
