"Mack" is Back and so is Oakland Unified's Innovative International Trade, Transportation and Logistics Academy (ITTL)

Maritime Industry Applauds McClymonds High School’s Trade Academy

OAKLAND, CA, USA – 08-27-10 – On Monday, August 30th, students at McClymonds High School (Mack) in Oakland will be returning to the classroom. Students at Mack have a unique educational opportunity where they can enroll in the International Trade, Transportation and Logistics Academy (ITTL), a specialized program focusing on the business of international trade, goods movement and the supply chain. This is the third year that the ITTL academy will be offered to Oakland high school students at McClymonds and the innovative program is ready for a fresh roll-out “day-one”.

According to Port of Oakland’s Director of Social Responsibility Diann Castleberry, “The trade, logistics and shipping industries are fascinating fields but not well recognized by the general public. We are very pleased that Mack’s new principal Kevin Taylor and new ITTL teacher Dylan Rudney are bringing a fresh vision, energy and commitment to the Academy that will demystify these industries and present a global outlook for these students.”

We are very pleased to participate in this local, educational opportunity for youth in Oakland. This particular program opens up the world of international trade, shipping and related careers to students who might not be aware of the opportunities in the maritime and trade industries,” added Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA) Vice President Mike Jacob.

The maritime industry is proud to support ITTL through its leadership on the ITTL Advisory Board. In addition to the Port of Oakland and PMSA, maritime industry companies on the Advisory Board include APL, Horizon Lines, Matson Lines, Pasha, and Triton Container. The Port of Oakland and PMSA have sponsored field trips, internships and participated directly in classroom activities at the Academy over the past two years. PMSA also co-chairs the Advisory Board along with representatives from Junior Achievement and State Senator Loni Hancock’s office.

Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA) is an independent trade association representing more than 60 operators of marine cargo terminals and owners/operators of U.S. and foreign-flagged cargo and passenger vessels. Its members are primarily engaged in the containerized trade at U.S. West Coast ports. The association has offices in Long Beach, San Francisco and Seattle. Please visit: http://www.pmsaship.com
