Big weekend at Jack London Square with Oakland Dance Festival and more

Dance performances, kayaking, and bowling all at the Oakland waterfront

Oakland, Calif. – April 27, 2017: Jack London Square is ready for a big weekend of recreation with dancing performances, bowling, and kayaking on the Oakland Estuary.

Oakland Dance Festival brings local dancers, choreographers, and teachers to the Square for a family friendly event. The free Festival will feature a variety of dance rhythms Saturday, April 29, from Noon to 8 PM and highlight dance genres including jazz, modern, and hip-hop. Kids to professional adults will perform dance styles including folkloric from Brazil, Africa and India. In addition, this event will feature free dance classes.

“No matter where you’re from, this festival brings us all together to feel the joy of movement through a shared artistic cultural experience,” said Oakland Dance Festival founder Carla Service.

For those who prefer to be on the water, Quick Start Kayak is Saturday, April 29 from 9AM to 1 PM. California Canoe & Kayak staff will teach this special four-hour class. It will introduce basic kayaking skills and essential water safety. For class fees and availability please visit: California Canoe & Kayak.

Indoor bowling with 18 state-of-the-art lanes and outdoor bocce ball on a huge patio are other recreational options for Jack London Square visitors. The restaurant Plank offers these activities as well as indoor interactive video games for children and adults.

For foodies who love to cook, Sunday Farmers Market has everything from fruits and vegetables to specialty foods, flowers and more. Note the new hours from 10AM to 3PM.
