Why: To join together in remembering those who
lost their lives in the terrorist attacks and to celebrate our community,
friends and family.
OAKLAND, Calif. (August 21, 2002) - The Port
of Oakland will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, Wednesday, September
11, 2002 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Pavilion Stage outside
of Barnes & Noble in Jack London Square. The ceremony will be
held not only to remember the people, whose lives were lost in the
terrorist attacks, but also to celebrate the value of our community,
friends and family.
The ceremony will open with brief remarks by Port of Oakland
officials, followed by an Interfaith presentation with local clerics.
The public will be invited to join in singing “America the
Beautiful”. At the conclusion of the ceremony, visitors
may place flowers in an area set up as a 9/11 memorial for that
day in Jack London Square.
