in 1998. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Alta Bates

"This is an honor and a privilege to be
elected President
of the Port of Oakland's Board of Port Commissioners," said
Commissioner Frank Kiang. "I'm looking forward to serving
in this new role with such dedicated members of our community.
We are all appreciative to past board President Phil Tagami for
guiding the port through a very significant year of success,"
Kiang added.
There will be a smooth transition of
leadership as Commissioner
Kiang takes on his new responsibilities as Port Board President.
Kiang has been a board member since 1998 and brings four years
of valuable experience and unquestionable commitment to his new
role.
Port Board President Phil Tagami attributed the
tremendous number
of board accomplishments over the past year to its highly effective
members, "All of the Port Commissioners have demonstrated
the capacity to lead. We have worked collectively to achieve significant
milestones for the Port. These accomplishments will pave the way
in the future for the Port of Oakland's continued expansion and
growing economic impact benefiting Oakland, our region, and the
state."
Over the past fiscal year under the leadership of Port Board
President Phil Tagami, the Port Commissioners established several
new significant policies including a precedent setting public
art policy, a lobbyist registration policy, a charitable giving
policy as well as a code of conduct.
"During my term, the code of conduct has
served the Board
well to facilitate the process of developing and setting new Port
of Oakland policies, such as our innovative art policy and giving
policy. We are enormously proud of the Port's historical generosity
in providing grants, sponsorships, in-kind services and reduced
rent to so many of our community groups," stated Port Board
President Phil Tagami.
