For Immediate Release
January 12, 2001 Port of Oakland Employees Set
A New Record for Generosity Pledging $96,000 to Local Charities
Not one, but two records were broken
as the final numbers rolled in from the Port of Oakland's 2000 Giving
Campaign. Port employees generously pledged over $96,000. This figure
represents a Port record and a 10% increase over last year. In addition
more people contributed than ever before -- a record 306 participants.
The donations are given to a group
of agencies selected by Port employees. They include non-profit
organizations under the umbrella of United Way of the Bay Area,
Bay Area Black United Fund, Community Health Charities of California,
Port of Oakland Employees Scholarship Fund and the Port of Oakland
Asian Employees Association.
The Giving Campaign is in its 16th
year at the Port. Port of Oakland Employees have contributed $642,000
over the duration of the program since it began back in 1984.
