NEW AIRPORT CONCESSION OPPORTUNITIES TO BE DETAILED AT 7/28 MEETING
Oakland, Calif. (July 15, 2003) - The Port of Oakland's Airport Properties Division will host an informational meeting, Monday, July 28th at the Hilton Oakland Airport, to discuss three new concessionaire opportunities coming soon as part of the port's Terminal Expansion (TEx) program at Oakland International Airport.
The meeting, to begin at 2 p.m. in the hotel's International Ballroom, will allow Port officials to discuss the retail, food and beverage business opportunities that will be available soon as the Port moves forward with the first phase of its TEx program.
That phase includes the renovation and expansion of the existing Terminal 2; the addition of seven new gates and supporting concession space; and the construction of a new 6,000 space multi-level parking garage. The project is expected to be completed by the Spring 2006.
The expansion will provide for three separate opportunities which, along with minimum qualifications, are:
  • Full Service Bar/Casual Dining (approx. 1,500 sq.ft.): Four years of direct ownership or management responsibilities within the past seven years with a similar business generating a minimum average annual gross revenue of $1,000,000.
  • Multi-Concept Fast Food (approx. 2,000 sq.ft.): Four years of direct ownership or management responsibilities within the past 7 years with a similar business generating a minimum average annual gross revenue of $750,000.
  • Newsstand/Gift Shop (approx. 1,000 sq.ft.): Three years of direct ownership or management responsibilities within the past 5 years with a similar business generating a minimum average annual gross revenue of $500,000.
In addition, the selected concessionaires must have the ability to procure loans or otherwise finance the cost of the initial build-out of the allotted space. The business spaces will be delivered in a shell condition and Port funds are not available for tenant improvements. Proposers are not prohibited from proposing on more than one opportunity.
"This is the first time in more than 25 years that the airport has had large new concession opportunities, " said Concession Manager Janet Deutsch. "We are excited and ready to begin sharing information with the public about the expansion and the selection process."
Deutsch stressed that during this phase of the expansion, there will not be opportunities for carts, kiosks or specialty retail concepts due to space constraints.
The information meeting is 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003 at the Hilton Oakland Airport, 1 Hegenberger Road, Oakland.
