Grammy-nominated performer Oleta Adams highlights Port of Oakland's annual festival and open house
OAKLAND, Calif, (May 26, 2003) - Three-time Grammy-nominated recording artist Oleta Adams is the marquee performer of this year’s PortFest 2003 presented by the Port of Oakland and Albertsons at Jack London Square Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Adams has wowed audiences for more than 13 years since releasing her debut album Circle of One. The record - which went platinum and featured the hit single, “Get Here, “ the unofficial anthem of the 1991 Persian Gulf War - introduced Adams to legions of fans who have appreciated her expressive, empowering voice and insightful and probing lyrics. Her performance is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday on the main stage.
More than 25,000 people are expected to attend this year’s annual party along the estuary. Port Day began in 1935 and was celebrated in conjunction with National Maritime Day. During the past several decades, PortFest has not only entertained thousands of Bay area residents, but also educated them about the Port’s maritime, aviation and commercial real estate divisions.
