Oakland International Airport is Ready For Labor Day Holiday Weekend Travel

Travelers can expect convenience, reliability and customer service

Oakland, CA – August 28, 2014 – Oakland International Airport (OAK) is preparing for a busy Labor Day holiday weekend, which traditionally marks the end of the peak summer travel period. OAK is anticipating over 150,000 passengers to fly through its two terminals over the five-day period that runs from August 28 through September 1. Many travelers are taking off for last minute summer getaway vacations to the Hawaiian Islands, Southern California, Chicago, Dallas and even Scandinavia. About 36,000 daily passengers are expected on the peak travel days which are Thursday, Friday, and Monday.

“The airport has seen record travelers this summer, with a million passengers during the month of July for the first time since 2008,” said Deborah Ale Flint, Director of Aviation for the Port of Oakland. “Travelers are able to enjoy even more destinations from OAK now, and they appreciate the convenience, reliability, and customer experience.”

U.S. airlines will carry 14 million passengers over the holiday weekend according to airline advocacy group Airlines for America (A4A), a two percent increase from the 13.8 million passengers who chose to fly in 2013.

Convenient Parking
Ample parking will be available at the airport over the long weekend. Travelers can even save $8 off per day in the Premier, Hourly, and Daily lots or $4 off per day in the Economy lot by obtaining a discount parking coupon at www.iparkoak.oaklandairport.com. If the Economy lot is full, travelers will receive a free upgrade to the Daily parking lot. All lots are conveniently within walking distance of the airline terminals.

Travelers should plan ahead before arriving at OAK. Before packing, visit the Transportation Security Administrations website at www.tsa.gov to get the 3-1-1 on air travel preparation.

Plan to arrive at the airport 90 minutes prior to domestic departures and three hours for international departures to allow for increased passenger volume at airline check-in and security screening. All passengers must have a boarding pass or airline approved documentation, and travelers 18 and older must show government issued identification before going through the passenger security checkpoint.
