In 2007, CARB promulgated new rules for drayage trucks entitled *Regulation to Control Emissions from In-Use On-road Diesel-Fueled Heavy-Duty Drayage Trucks* (*Drayage Truck Regulation*). This regulation requires drayage truck owners to ensure that their trucks meet certain emission standards in order to reduce air pollutant emissions, and in particular, to reduce DPM emissions by 85%. In addition to required truck upgrade actions by deadlines which vary by truck age, all drayage truck owners must register in the CARB Statewide Drayage Truck Registry by September 30, 2009.
After adopting the Drayage Truck Regulation, CARB approved in 2008 an additional regulation for existing on-road diesel vehicles operating in California. The *Statewide Truck and Bus Regulation* establishes phase-out deadlines for all heavy-duty diesel trucks, comparable to the deadlines in the Drayage Truck Regulation. While the Statewide Truck and Bus Regulation targets primarily non-drayage trucks, it does establish two deadlines for drayage trucks of engine model years 2004-2006, an age group not addressed in the earlier Drayage Truck Regulation.
