West Oakland Community Day
To foster open communication and to strengthen community ties, we're creating opportunities for the exchange of ideas and sharing of information. In July 2001, the Port held its first community day in West Oakland where our executive director and other Port staff enjoyed visiting with our neighbors.

This successful town hall meeting accomplished several objectives that benefited both the public and the Port. The forum:

• Provided community residents with a chance to express their thoughts about maritime expansion.
• Provided updates on waterfront projects and issues that directly affect the West Oakland community.
• Introduced the Port of Oakland and its activities to those who have had little or no previous contact with the Port.

After the forum, we provided round-trip shuttles to Jack London Square, where participants boarded comfortable, open-decked ferries for a free narrated harbor tour and lunch.

As part of our Good Neighbor Policy, we'll continue to inform and educate our local communities about the Port's activities.
